Choosing a Private Villa in Bali: What to Ask Before You Book

30 April 2026 · by Ni Made Ayu

A villa photographs beautifully and still disappoints in person. After years of sourcing private stays across Bali, we have learned that the difference is rarely the pool. It is the staff, the location, and the small operational details that never make the listing. Here is what we ask on your behalf.

Who is actually on staff?

A great villa comes with people, not just rooms. Confirm whether the rate includes a private chef, a butler, and a dedicated driver, and whether the chef can cook three meals a day on request. Ask how dietary needs and allergies are handled before arrival, and whether daily grocery provisioning is included.

How private is private?

Privacy is a spectrum. Some villas share a road, a beach club, or a wall with the next property. We confirm that your booking is exclusive to your party, that staff are discreet, and that the grounds are genuinely yours for the stay.

Where does it sit?

Location decides your days. A clifftop in Uluwatu is a different holiday from a rice-field villa in Ubud or a beach villa in Seminyak. We match the area to how you want to spend your time, then confirm the real drive times to the places you plan to visit.

What happens if something goes wrong?

The honest test of a villa is the day a pump fails or a flight shifts. We only place guests in properties with a responsive manager and a concierge on call, so a small problem stays small.

If you would like us to shortlist villas for your dates, send us your group size and the kind of stay you have in mind, and we will come back with vetted options.
